Hi Fashion lovers,
This post is all about Hemming!
Something that can really help a lot of people and one that I’m sure a lot of sewers and no sewers will find useful is how to repair a hem not using a sewing machine.
What you will need is:
Needle – Any basic sewing needle will do the thinner the better
Thread- Same colour as the garment you are sewing the button onto if possible
Cutting tools- scissor, knife or something sharp to cut the threads.
Prepare the hem before stitching, do this by turning the hem up 2-3cm and pin in place. The pins will help keep the hem area secure.
- Thread your needle with the closet matching thread to your fabric. Start your hem in the seam of the pants, skirt etc. Place the needle up and through to the top side of the fabric.
- Now with the tip of the needle, grab only a tiny part of the back fabric (which is the front part of your pants, skirt etc.) and pull the thread through.
- Go about 1cm-1.5cm to the left or right of that beginning stitch and grab the tiniest part of your hem and the back fabric. Pull the needle all the way through so the stitch is secure. Don’t pull too tight or your fabric will pucker.
- Repeat this all the way around your pants or skirt etc. Make a knot at the end and cut excess threads off.
Hope this helps with any loose hems your might have. Check out my socials to keep up to date with everything sewing !
