Class Options:

Offering a range of different classes to try and suit everyone’s needs.

  1. Private sewing classes – we choose a day and time that suits you
  2. Group classes – Wednesday during the day or of an evening. Maximum of 4 people per class, – Saturday sewing workshop for 6 hours
  3. 8 weeks sewing classes -$350

Information:

Learn to make your own clothes from scratch in this beginners sewing class covering all the basics you need to know. You’ll be guided through the whole sewing process from learning to use a sewing machine to cutting, fitting, reading patterns and sewing a garment of your choice from a selection of designs. With only a maximum of 4 students you’ll get more one-on-one time.

Gain Confidence In:

  • Setting up your sewing machine – threading, needle selection, thread choice, learning different stitches and setting you can use with your machine and maintenance
  • Sewing components – creative neat seam finishes, buttonholes/button applications, zipper, sewing curves/darts and garment finishes e.g. facing/bindings
  • Paper pattern reading
  • Choosing the right type of fabric and notions for your project
  • Pattern preparation and fabric lay
  • Fabric cutting
  • Working through a pattern step-by-step
  • Basic fitting
  • Hem finishes

What To Bring:

Sewing Kit:

  • thread snips
  • scissor paper and fabric
  • 1 metre of calico
  • black and white sewing thread (recommend gutermann)
  • sewing pins (pearl head)
  • water soluble pen
  • measuring tape
  • unpicked

Sewing machine:
I recommend working on your own sewing machine so you gain more confidence and it allows you to know and be familiar with your own equipment. We do have some machines if you need to your though out the course (NO CHARGE).

For the more confident sewers that want to extend there skills and learn more industry standard techniques, tips of the trade and faster ways to get garments complete at a high quality.

What You Learn:

  1. Pattern making skills – Learn to alter and change simple patterns and to make a pattern from your favourite garment.
  2. Pattern hack- learn how to change necklines, hem shapes, add pleats or fullness, length or shorten your favourite pattern, add sleeves.
  3. Binding and Zippers- improve and learn your binding and zipper techniques, insides and outs will be taught, perfect finishes along with learning invisible zipper and regular with facings and lining.
